My name is Ross Clark, and I love my geeky life! For as long as I can remember I have had a love/passion for gaming and watching movies, and it only gets worse as I get older. Every time I find out that a new teaser trailer has been released for an upcoming anticipated movie or game, I can’t help but bounce with joy as the prospect of just seeing it. I’m the guy who shed a tear for (spoiler warning) Jokers death at the end of Arkham City. I have long conversations with my fellow nerds, theorizing about movies or games that are often more than a year from release. My wife recently told me that 90% of what comes out of my mouth involves games or movies, which I hadn’t realized, but it did give me an idea.
It never occurred to me until now, that I could get any more involved in these communities than I already was. Not true. These are the things I love in my life, and I already talk about them constantly (mostly to people who just humor me), so why not write about it! Right now is an exciting time to live the geeky life. There has never been more outlets to satisfy those itches like there are now. Whether it be movies, comic books, TV shows, or video games, there is a form of nerdery out there for everyone. Mainly what I’m going to cover in this blog is Movie/Gaming discussion, news and reviews, but I’ll be sure to throw in a curve ball from time to time.
So, a little more about me. I’m 29 years old, and I live in Cincinnati Ohio. I’m married, own a house, a dog, and 3 cats. I have been with my wife for the last 12 years, and married the last 7. She is the best person I know and my life has been elevated since the moment she entered it. I currently work a full and part time job, and will be writing this blog in the few hours I have free in between. My obsession for Movies, and Gaming mainly stem from my Father and Uncle. From the time I was old enough to support my own head, I was sitting on my dad’s lap while he played old PC games. If we weren’t gaming, we were watching movies, something that we had an over-abundance of. Still to this day, I can quote the entirety of Wayne’s World, and Ace Ventura. My father may have been the inspiration for my now 25 year long obsession, but my Uncle has been the one guiding me on my nerdy journey for the last several of those years. He introduced me to many different genres of gaming, and would do his best to teach or instruct me on how to get better (performing the giant swing with Wolf in Virtua Fighter still gives me nightmares). From the first time that I was able to play online, he has been my main gaming partner, and that’s a partnership that is still strong today.
Clearly, I love both Movies, and Gaming….but I have always been slightly more partial to the latter. Gaming achieves so many of the things I love about being a nerd, as well as satisfying my competitive edge. It’s very rewarding to solve challenging puzzles, or defeat a boss that takes more than an ounce of skill, or even to grasp a close victory in an online bout against faceless opponents. But along with those challenges, in the modern age of gaming, they also deliver an impressive amount of world building. Today, Video Games have the same budget as most blockbuster movies, so there is more to them than just shooting the bad guy, and moving from point A to B. More often than not, there is a compelling story, and relatable characters that you get to know and connect with throughout the game. This virtually turns it into an interactive movie, and when you are interacting with something, one cannot help being more invested and pulled deeper into the fantasy. The gaming industry has evolved tremendously in the past 15 or 20 years, and has truly become something to marvel at.
So that’s me, and those are the things I’m writing about on this website. If you share the same love for Movies/Games that I do, then stick around and there will be a lot of great content coming your way!
